6-8 September - POETRY IN MCGREGOR GATHERING

The weekend will include:

• Anthology 2023 Launch. Each visiting poet will be invited to read their contribution.

• Celebrating a Decade of Poetry In McGregor. Reading of poems from the festivals 2013 – 2023.Poets will be invited to read their own works from 10 years of Poetry In McGregor Anthologies.

• A dinner with poetry at Tebaldi’s.

• A relaxed Open Mic session during which poets can read their latest work.

• Poetry Meditation in the Little Way.

• Some poetry reading events still to be confirmed, which celebrate the spirit of Poetry In McGregor.

7 - 8 September - Breede River Canoe Marathon

Robertson will host the start of the 56th Breede River Marathon. This is a two-day 72km canoe marathon, which starts on Saturday, 7 September 2024 at McGregor Bridge in Robertson, overnights at Bonnievale after the first day and finishes downstream at Kambati Resort on Sunday, 8 September 2024. The main event is for double canoes (K2) but other classes such as single canoes (K1), three-person canoes (K3) and surf skis are also allowed.

 

The marathon attracts the cream of South African canoeing and lately also a small but growing number of international paddlers. With the exception of the previous few years which were influenced by the serious drought and the Covid lockdowns

in Western Cape the yearly entry atrtracts between 300 to 500 canoeists. Every other year the marathon gets the status of South African K2 or K3 Championships which boost the entries considerably.
