Stepping into Esona is like stepping into a part of history. Our building is 95-years-old, four of the internal doors were rescued from a junk warehouse and the stairs leading up to the deck and restaurant are about 75 years old.
So, while you sit back, relaxing and enjoying a glass of hand crafted wine, think of the years of hard labour that went into constructing Esona and plays such a major role in our history.
Esona is a boutique winery, producing limited release wine from single vineyards nestled beside the Breede River in the Robertson Wine Valley. Husband Rowan, and wife Caryl, found this 17 hectare jewel, situated between Robertson and Bonnievale as a place of relaxation from the busy city life. As all great things take time they developed this 'once before' vegetable farm into nine hectares of vines in 2004 and released the first Esona wine in 2010. The farm is maintained by a small team that knows every vine through their hand picking of the grapes. The wine is crafted to capture the unique tastes of Esona's grapes that has provided. Esona wine labels each have a unique tear on the top edge making each bottle distinct. The Old Cellar is surrounded by magnificent views and offer personalized vertical wine tastings of our limited release single vineyard wines in RIEDEL grape specific glasses. You will be glad to know that you will be able to enjoy your wine and deli delights on our deck overlooking the Breede River and Langeberg mountains which is surrounded by our vines...
