Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary
(McGregor)
Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary’s vision is to
provide abused, neglected and elderly donkeys
with the opportunity to live out their lives
with respect and dignity, surrounded by their
own kind, in a protective and natural
environment.
The
sanctuary is situated
opposite
McGregor Winery on the tarred raod form
Robertson to McGregor, just 5 km from McGregor.
A local farmer, Mr. Botha Naudé of the farm
Thornvilla, has generously made land
available to the Donkey Sanctuary.
Besides
caring for the donkeys, the work also includes
an educational component which includes:

Field
trips to the Sanctuary to teach children
about donkeys and their care and to broaden
this aspect to the care of animals and
social responsibility in general.

A
classroom project which teachers can use in
their classrooms. The material has been
developed for grade three learners.
The work
of the sanctuary is supported by donors and an
adopt-a-donkey scheme.
